India’s first hydrogen-powered train is all set to roll out on the Jind–Sonipat route in Haryana, marking a new chapter in green mobility. The project is being executed by the Indian Railways in partnership with the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, and RDSO (Lucknow), with trials expected to begin by March 2025.

🚄 The Hydrogen Leap

This eco-friendly marvel runs on hydrogen fuel cells, producing zero carbon emissions, the only by-product is water vapor! The train’s technology blends modern sustainability with Indian engineering ingenuity, aiming to reduce dependency on imported fossil fuels while setting a model for clean, indigenous rail transport.

It will initially operate on a prototype basis between Jind and Sonipat, carrying both passengers and goods, while its success could determine the rollout across several narrow- and broad-gauge routes nationwide.
